A perfect storm engenders online rudeness, including virtual anonymity and thus a lack of accountability, physical distance and the medium of writing
I used to spend a lot of time helping others online and using public forums , but I found that some people want to destroy instead of 'build up'.
I even got a lifetime ban on QRZ.COM for helping out another ham with correct techincal advice.
All because I wrote a comment that was 100% correct that one of their moderators disagreed with.
This moderator (Glen) sent me a private messages through the system saying that if I don't ''shut the F&¤¤k up'' he will ban me.
So I compalined to the owner of QRZ and told him that one of his moderators was out of control and abusive.
The owner of QRZ.COM , Fred , then said that if I wanted to stay on QRZ.COM that I would have to submit to NEW, EXTRA terms and conditions , , and they were , not to post anything which disagreed with the opinions of QRZ moderators.
I said that I would not agree to such a thing as I had never broken any of the original terms and conditions that were outlined when I signed up on QRZ.
Fred (a real nutjob) said that he would be getting his lawers onto me. , and he did.
I recieved emails from a Ham that works in law firm and he said that Fred would be filing a law suit against me.
I replied to the lawer -- ''That is GREAT NEWS !! I am happy to fly to the US and go to court at any time, and then the whole worldwide Ham community will know EXACTLY how QRZ.COM works.''
Funny thing , I never did recieve any court summons

But Fred did then immediately lifetime band me.
Thats how it works with some people ,, sadly , there are a lot of screws loose in the Ham community.
